Scribe Origins is free to study with. A subscription unlocks unlimited practice, renews automatically until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time.
These terms are from ScribeOrigins. In these terms, "we", "us", and "our" mean ScribeOrigins, and "Scribe Origins" means everything we provide under that name: our website, the web app, our apps on any device, the help pages, Community (the forums and partner chats), support, and all the content and features in them.
When you use any part of Scribe Origins, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please stop using Scribe Origins.
If you are under 18, or under the age at which you can agree to a contract where you live, a parent or guardian must read these terms and agree to them for you. A parent or guardian who lets a child use Scribe Origins agrees to these terms and is responsible for how that child uses it.
Please read sections 11 to 18 carefully. They limit what we are responsible for and what you can claim from us.
You can study without an account. Creating one lets you keep your progress and carry on from another device.
Use one account for yourself, keep the email address on it up to date so you can always get back in, and do not try to break, copy, or interfere with the app or anyone else's use of it.
Studying is free, with a set number of free answers each day. That daily limit can change as the app grows, and the app always shows you where you are against it before you run out.
A Scribe Origins subscription removes the daily limit and unlocks the full set of study modes.
You can cancel whenever you like, and you keep full access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
Cancelling stops the next payment. It is not the same as asking for a refund — see the Refund Policy.
New phone, or reinstalled the app? Sign in with the same account and use Restore Purchases in Settings & Account. Your subscription comes back with it.
Refunds for purchases made through the App Store are handled by Apple, not by us. Purchases made on the web are covered by our Refund Policy.
The notes you write, the word lists you build, and anything you post stay yours. You give us permission to store them, sync them between your own devices, and show them back to you, so the app can do its job. Nothing more.
You are responsible for what you write. Do not upload anything you do not have the right to share.
Where Scribe Origins lets you talk to other learners, keep it kind and keep it legal: no harassment, no hate, no spam, nothing illegal, and nothing that is not yours to post. We can remove posts and suspend accounts that break this.
© ScribeOrigins. You cannot copy, sell, or republish our original content without our permission, except where permitted by law.
Scribe Origins is a study tool. How much you learn depends on how you use it, so we cannot promise a particular result, exam score, or level.
You use Scribe Origins at your own risk. As far as the law allows, we provide it "as is" and "as available", with no warranties, conditions, or promises of any kind, whether stated, implied, or set by law. This includes any implied warranty of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, title, or non-infringement.
In particular, we do not promise that:
Nothing in Scribe Origins is professional advice of any kind, including medical, legal, financial, or immigration advice. Do not rely on it where a mistake could cause harm or loss, for example in legal, medical, official, business, or safety matters, or in an emergency. Check anything important with a qualified person.
None of this takes away the rights listed in section 17.
Features change as the app improves, and a service can be interrupted for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. We do not promise that Scribe Origins will always be available, or available without interruption.
We can change, limit, pause, or remove any feature or content, and we can stop offering Scribe Origins altogether. As far as the law allows, we are not liable to you for doing so. This does not take away any refund you are owed under our Refund Policy or under the law.
We are not responsible for a failure or a delay caused by something outside our reasonable control. Examples are problems with the internet, with hosting, app stores, payment, sign-in, or email providers, or with your device or network; power failures; attacks on computer systems; natural disasters; epidemics; war; strikes; and actions by governments.
You are responsible for your own device, your internet connection, and any charges from your phone or internet company. You are also responsible for keeping your account safe. Protect the email address you sign in with, because anyone who can read that email can get into your account. You are responsible for what is done through your account.
Your study record can be lost. It is saved on your device, and it can be lost or damaged if you clear your browser or app data, remove the app, change or lose your device, or if saving or syncing fails. Sync is a convenience, not a guaranteed backup. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose: the app can save your learning to a file. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for lost, damaged, or changed progress, notes, word lists, streaks, rewards, settings, or other data.
Streaks, scores, and rewards in the app have no money value and cannot be exchanged for money.
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for harm to your device, your software, or your other data that comes from downloading, installing, or using Scribe Origins.
Use Scribe Origins safely. Do not use it while driving, cycling, crossing a road, or doing anything else that needs your full attention. Take breaks. Stop, and get medical advice, if you feel unwell while using it, for example with eye strain, headaches, dizziness, or sore hands. If moving images, flashing light, or sound can affect your health, talk to a doctor before you play the games. Keep the volume at a safe level.
Users are solely responsible for anything they upload, post, send, or share. We do not endorse user content or guarantee its accuracy, legality, safety, or suitability.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all responsibility and liability for user content, users’ conduct, and any loss, damage, or claim arising from them.
We may restrict or remove content and suspend or close accounts. Except where required by law, we have no obligation to review or monitor content. Hosting, displaying, reviewing, or moderating content does not mean we endorse it or guarantee it.
Forum posts, chat messages, photos, profile details, and anything else that users share come from those users, not from us. We do not write them, and we do not check that they are true, safe, or lawful. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible or liable for them, or for anything another user says or does. This includes content that is wrong, misleading, offensive, harmful, or against the law. Language advice from another learner can be wrong.
We do not check who people are. Names, ages, and other profile details are what users tell us, and they may not be true.
Automated checks, including AI, and reports from users help us find abuse, and we can remove content or limit accounts. But we cannot see or catch everything. We do not promise to review any particular post or message, and we do not promise that Community is safe or free of content that upsets you. Parent lock and the other controls help, but they do not replace an adult who watches over a child's use.
You decide who you talk to and what you share, at your own risk. Do not share private details such as your home address, school, phone number, passwords, or payment details. Do not send money to anyone you meet through Scribe Origins. Anything you do with another user outside Scribe Origins, including meeting in person, is your own choice and your own risk.
Any dispute you have with another user is between you and that user. As far as the law allows, you release us from every claim, demand, and loss, known or unknown, that comes from that dispute or from another user's content or conduct.
If you see something that breaks these terms, flag it, or tell us in Settings & Account → Support.
Scribe Origins depends on services that other companies run, such as the App Store, Google Play, payment providers, sign-in with Apple or Google, email delivery, your device, your browser, and your network. Those companies have their own terms, and they make their own decisions, for example about the payments and refunds that they handle.
Our help pages also link to other websites. We do not control these services or websites. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible or liable for what they do, for their content, for their failures or mistakes, or for any charges, fees, or taxes that they apply.
This section applies as far as the law that applies to you allows. Section 17 takes priority over this section.
We are not liable for any of the losses below. This is so however the loss is caused, whatever the legal basis of the claim (contract, negligence or any other civil wrong, statute, or any other basis), and even if we were told that the loss could happen:
For every other loss or damage of any kind, we are also not liable. We do not pay damages, compensation, or any other money for any loss or damage connected with Scribe Origins or with these terms.
These limits also apply to claims against our owners, staff, contractors, licensors, and service providers.
These limits are part of the agreement between you and us. We can offer Scribe Origins free to study with, and at its subscription price, only because these limits apply.
Nothing in these terms removes or limits:
In Australia, Scribe Origins comes with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or changes those guarantees or your rights under that law. Where that law lets us limit what we owe you for not meeting a guarantee, we limit it to supplying the service again.
If you live in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, this paragraph applies to you in place of section 16, and it takes priority if another part of these terms says something different about our liability. We are liable without limit for harm that we cause on purpose or through gross negligence, and for death or injury to a person. If we break an essential duty under these terms through slight negligence, we are liable only for the loss that is typical for this kind of agreement and that could be foreseen. An essential duty is a duty that must be met for these terms to work at all, and that you can normally rely on us to meet. For any other slight negligence, we are not liable. Liability under product liability law is not affected.
Some places do not allow some of the limits in sections 11 to 16 and section 18. Where that is so, those limits apply to you only as far as your law allows, and the rest still apply.
Another person or company may make a claim against us because of something you posted or uploaded, because you broke these terms or the law, or because you misused Scribe Origins or harmed someone else's rights. If that happens, you agree to pay the reasonable losses and costs that the claim causes us, including reasonable legal costs. This applies as far as the law allows, and it does not apply to the part of a loss that we caused ourselves.
You can delete your account at any time in Settings & Account. We can suspend or close an account that is used for abuse, fraud, or anything illegal. What happens to your information afterwards is set out in the Privacy Policy.
These terms are governed by the laws of Australia, and disputes will be dealt with by the courts of Australia.
These terms, with the Privacy Policy and the Refund Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about Scribe Origins.
If a court or another authority decides that a part of these terms cannot be enforced, that part applies as far as the law allows, and the rest of these terms stay in force.
If we do not use a right under these terms immediately, we still keep that right. Sections 10 to 18, section 20, and this section continue to apply after you stop using Scribe Origins and after your account ends.
These terms are written in English (US). Translations are provided to help you. If a translation says something different from the English (US) version, the English (US) version applies, as far as the law where you live allows.
If we change these terms we will update the date at the top of this page, and we will tell you in the app when a change matters to you. Carrying on using Scribe Origins after that means you accept the new version.
Questions about these terms? Open Scribe Origins and go to Settings & Account → Support. We answer there.
